Description
Mainstream proposes developing a blast overpressure omnidirectional measurement (BOOM) device that detects, records, and transmits captured data for blast events experienced by individual personnel. The BOOM device is composed of a microcontroller that collects, stores, and transmits data collected from several miniature pressure transducers placed on personnel. The sensors enable capture of the peak pressure and positive phase duration, and allow calculation of individual and cumulative positive phase impulse and triangulation of the incident pressure wave. Processed data can be encrypted and wirelessly transmitted in near real-time to a fire control computer or other computerized systems to support crew’s activities. The BOOM device leverages the reduced cost of mass-produced, commercially available components along with state-of-the-art algorithms into an innovative integrated system that can monitor individual personnel’s continued exposure to blast waves and automatically inform unit commanders.
