Description

Materials and Technologies Corp. (MATECH) will further the design (from the functional prototype presented here), demonstrate the effectiveness, and thoroughly characterize a new aircrew active bladder relief system with low-cost disposable crew components. There is currently no fully satisfactory approach for aircrew to relieve their bladder during flight, especially for female crew. MATECHs system is compatible with all current fighter and aircraft, has greatest possible component commonality between male/female versions, it is self-contained, comfortable, unobtrusive, inconspicuous, and compatible with current suits, gear and survival equipment without modifications. MATECHs crew body interfaces are of a novel anatomical design and made of biocompatible polymers for excellent seal and comfort. The small and simple device is comfortable for extended wear and will be worn under the flight suit. The device uses a smart modular pumping device with full and leak sensors for fail-safe and rugged operation. It empties into a pressure compensated bladder capable of unpressurized flight up to 50,000 ft. Power will be supplied by a self-contained rechargeable source also worn by the aircrew. In Phase II MATECH will build an air-worthy prototype. At the end of the program MATECH will have production-ready units available and a manufacturing plan in place.
