Description

MEVLABS will develop a novel vector control device, composed of non-toxic biodegradeable material that can be formed into various containers. The device will be designed to slowly release attractants and toxicants and will be effective on both adult and larvae mosquitoes. The device will be air-deployable or can be hung by hand and will be camouflaged to match the operational environment and incorporate low infrared detectability. The device will offer several advantages over current technologies; 1) reduces the impact on the environment, 2) targets adult and larvae mosquitoes with less pesticide as it retained in a bait station and reducing impact on non-target organisms, 3) reduces risk to military personnel by blending into the environment (visual and IR) and eliminating the need to refill or collect the device. The device will be designed for safety of military personnel and require no specialized training. As a former infantryman, armor and medical service corp officer, I appreciate and seek the opportunity to protect military personnel from mosquito-borne diseases as well as help protect families around the world. In summary, the device will use Biodegradeable, Visual, Olfactory, and Chemical (BVOC™) components to control mosquito populations and have military and civilian applications.
