Description
During the Phase I SBIR effort, NanoSonic designed, tested, and empirically optimized a two-part epoxy polyamide primer that will meet the performance requirements and distribution goals for NSN: 8010-01-266-6576 Part Name: Epoxy Primer Coating DLA Supply Chain: C&E Weapon System: B-2 Part Description: MILSPEC Part Number M85582-2-C2-0001P. To meet this challenge, NanoSonic implemented a rigorous design of experiments that involved the production, testing, evaluation, and iterative optimization of over 75 unique primer compositions. Through these efforts, NanoSonic down-selected an epoxy primer composition that has 1) passed all the MIL-PRF-85582 tests that could be completed during the 6-month program, 2) direct scalability within its established pilot scale manufacturing infrastructure, and 3) submitted an Engineering Support Activity (ESA) Source Approval Request (SAR) package for NSN 8010-01-266-6576. A Phase II program continuation will provide a pivotal bridge enabling NanoSonic to become an Approved Source for NSN: 8010-01-266-6576 and two additional MIL-PRF-85582 primers managed by DLA to provide increased availability and competition within the high-performance aerospace primer market. Further, NanoSonic will actively pursue SARs for related aerospace primers and topcoats throughout the Phase II program to further increase its DLA technology portfolio.
