Description
The goal of this program is to develop a conformal solid-state Li cell enabled by a flexible solid state laminated stack. The solid state electrolyte is a polymer composite which balances trade-offs between facile charge transport and practical mechanical properties. The proposed approach scales readily to high volume production and benefits cycle life through managing interfacial strain and impedance. In Phase I, a full Li solid cell was demonstrated with a unit stack specific energy of 200 Wh/kg. In Phase II, the materials and processes will be optimized and scaled up to build large format solid state cells (= 2.5 Ah) which will achieve specific energy = 350 Wh/kg and cycle life = 250. The wide temperature range and safety advantage of the solid state cell will also be demonstrated. A conformal solid state battery of 12 V, 150 Wh will be delivered as completion of Phase II.
