Description
The Army requires greater Situational Awareness (SA) for the aircrews of rotorcraft. Currently, there is no system in place to provide the aircrew with visibility into the ‘blind spots’ that exist below and behind the aircraft. OKSI proposes an innovative multi-frame super-resolution (MFSR) solution to address this need by exploiting low-resolution, high-rate imagery from existing Aircraft Survivability Equipment (ASE). MFSR has not previously been applied for near real-time enhancement of high-rate video data and requires innovation to achieve the necessary image processing quality and speed. During Phase-I, OKSI developed and demonstrated the MFSR solution on surrogate video, establishing that real-time enhancement is achievable. During Phase-II, OKSI will further develop the MSFR solution by making algorithm improvements, testing on real ASE video data, and implementing the method on a standalone system. Phase-II will culminate in a demonstration of real-time MFSR on high-rate streaming video.
