Description
This proposal is for Modeling of Dense Urban Networks (MDUN). Our objective is to develop: (1) a well-researched mathematical model of a dense urban environment’s interdependent functional systems and production, allocation, identity, legitimacy, participation, and penetration networks; and (2) a computational framework for assessing the primary, secondary, and tertiary impacts of stressors, originating on one functional system of one of these networks, on the other networks as well as on the sentiment and the behavior of the local populace. Specifically, we will develop a prototypical computational framework which can: model major urban functional systems; use available observed evidence; quantitatively assess each indicator’s importance to the each of the urban networks; quantitatively assess inter-causal impact; accurately predict primary, secondary and tertiary effects across functional systems across all networks; and accurately predict changes in sentiment behavior of the local populace as a result of the impacts on the functional systems across all the urban networks. We will conclude the Phase I effort by demonstrating our framework using historical data where known stressors had secondary and tertiary impacts transcending functional systems and networks and resulted in extreme behavioral and sentiment changes of the local populace.
