Description
Intelligence centers within the Air Force (NASIC, 24th Air Force, 25th Air Force, 480th ISR Wing) currently use a variety of tools to analyze large amounts “Publicly Available Informationâ€Â (PAI) that can come in the form of social media, internet pages, local news, online videos, documents, audio files, and foreign media and foreign scientific papers related to war fighting capabilities. This type of intelligence analysis is typically done by operators known as ISR analysts who combine this type of open source intelligence (OSINT) with other types of intelligence (GEOINT, SIGINT, HUMINT) to derive situational awareness. In an ever increasing technological world, social media, the internet, and publicly available information are becoming the most important sources of intelligence for detecting threats, hotspots, unrest, and other mission critical knowledge.
