Description
The rapid escape airlock proposed here will yield a solution that minimizes air volume and maintains continual passage through the decontamination area. This solution will remove 99.99% of contaminants and allow passage for one individual in less than 60 seconds. The structure of this airlock will incorporate inflatable rollers connected by a vertical fabric belt that seals the airlock cavity. These rollers and the integrated fabric belt will be compliant enough to easily accommodate a soldier donning gear while minimizing the excess air volume created by personnel passage. Ease of passage will be facilitated by a powered solution that will rotate the vertical cylinders, and by default the integrated fabric belt, to usher personnel through at the proper rate. A fresh air snorkel and strategically placed floor vents will circulate contaminated air out of the personnel cavity and a cascading airlock design feature will pressurize the airlock to reduce contaminated air/particulate infiltration.
