Description

Visor based Head Mounted Displays have been preferred for military cockpits for decades, where their advantages of no obscuration and ample eye relief are highly advantageous. These advantages also apply to Soldiers, where other equipment constraints mitigate against near-eye type displays (ballistic eyewear, for example). What is required is an affordable, rugged, visor-integrated display system that has performance targeted at the needs of the warfighter. One of the reasons current HMDs are so expensive is that they use small, custom, high resolution microdisplays that do not have a large consumer market and thereby have a high price. A new class of larger displays have entered the market aimed at consumer applications in volumes that are orders of magnitude higher than military HMDs. These displays are much less expensive than the microdisplays used in military HMDs. SA Photonics is pleased to propose our Visor Integrated Display System (VIDS) HMD for both soldier and commercial applications. The VIDS is a low-cost, state-of-the-art integrated design, that allow it to be easily configured for and attached to a wide range of typical military equipment exemplified by the Advanced Combat Helmet and other protective head gear as are worn by first-responder and para-military organizations.
