Description
The objective for this project is to demonstrate current state of art capability in DEFORM for 3D modeling of linear friction modeling of IN718 coupons and benchmark the computational time requirements. In addition, DEFORM 3D LFW modeling predictions of upset rate and flash shape will be compared with the experimental observations of IN718 coupon linear friction welds that would be completed during Phase I part of this project. During Phase I of the project, our team will identify areas of improvement for 3D LFW modeling methods to minimize computational time, plan for detailed experimental validation of LFW models and improve the model accuracy in predicting temperature profiles, upset rates and flash morphology.
