Description
There is a need in the Air Force to create visual simulations capable of producing complex multi-domain scenarios to represent current and future threats for pilot training in a virtual world prior to live engagements. Pilots need to know more than just how to operate the aircraft. For example, they need to understand how to consume an array of situational awareness while still being able to function in a high-stress environment. Virtual simulation can not only provide these capabilities, but also facilitate training using low-cost, small form-factor devices to increase the availability mission preparation and rehearsal. We propose enhancing the COTS Unity game engine with a modular simulation middleware platform to both quickly leverage existing third-party technologies for Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and realistic real-time rendering. SimBlocks.io has enhanced Unity engine with the ability to visualize a world-wide base terrain with high-detailed content insets. Our One World SDK for Unity can render the globe at multiple levels of detail and supports placing geospatial content from a variety of sources. SimBlocks will extend our Common Image Generator Interface (CIGI) interoperability to support the Data Distribution Service (DDS) and the Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) data model.
