Description

In current Air Force ISR operations, human analysts are required to gather, process, and disseminate large amounts of ISR data. Team coordination is relatively simple when an ISR mission is proceeding normally; however, when something goes wrong or an interesting event occurs, individual human team members can become overwhelmed. Our PED-Savant system consists of a suite of algorithms designed to sit outside the data pipeline and monitor the data stream, pulling information into its various modules to sift through the feeds and prioritize tasks based on physiological and task estimations of analyst workload combined with task situation assessment. Workload assessment enables the system to recognize when tasks should be handed off, and to whom they should be handed. Task assignment could be traded off between multiple analysts dependent on role and mission context. SoarTech has developed a workload model for assessing real-time workload across a user’s visual, tactile, and cognitive resources and has applied this model to the problem of automated offloading of tasks from one user to another. In the proposed effort we will conduct a feasibility study for our proposed PED-Savant application composed of intelligent workload monitoring, task sharing, and handoff as applied to PED.
