Description

Spytek Aerospace proposes in Phase II to build advanced dual Inter Turbine Burner (ITB) turbo-shaft engine to create a modular multi-mode adaptive advanced cycle gas turbine engine for Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft/Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) use based on several Aurora Flight Sciences (AFS) notional vehicles . In Phase I Spytek conducted vehicle studies with AFS, established the engine size at 400-556 hp, designated TI310-SA100, and did significant engine cycle work to define performance capability. Using Spytek’s operating FI304-SA325 dual ITB turbo-fan of similar architecture, a detailed engine layout, including individual component detail and manufacturing detail was provided. The proposed, dual output shaft engine will use the multi-ITB platform, and be capable of hybrid electric operations. Spytek will also develop a low cost/size/weight 250 kW generator to be integrated with the TI310 Turboshaft working with MotorSolver as the generator design/manufacture source. Spytek demonstrated the feasibility of an innovative approach for advanced power and propulsion concepts through modeling, empirical and pragmatic analysis. The analysis included the effects or requirements driven by vehicle subsystems, payloads and all other ancillary components of the power and propulsion system. TRL level of the proposed engine at completion of Phase II is 6-7.
