Description

Systems & Technology Research (STR) proposes the development of a novel multifunction/multimodal airborne radar architecture leveraging STR’s extensive experience in the development of software, hardware, and advanced algorithms for a wide variety of airborne radar applications. On this program, we will focus on the development of a fundamentally new airborne radar architecture that optimizes airborne radar performance in dynamic sensing environments. The Phase I effort will focus on developing advanced RF convergent radar waveforms that combine sensing & communications functionality into a single, dual-use waveform and RF convergent sensor resource management (SRM) algorithms based on model predictive control (MPC) that optimize utility of sensor resources across polarimetric, spectral, temporal, and spatial dimensions. Additionally, we also propose the development of a novel waveform design based on a Lagrangian dynamics that can enable in-band high throughput communications from other assets or can be used to mitigate interference. Throughout the effort, STR will work to establish an advanced multifunction/multimodal radar architecture development plan for Phase II using the fundamental approach developed during Phase I and the inclusion of feedback from the U.S. Government team to hone the research towards a direction that is amenable for a successful transition to the Navy.
