Description
The military combat eye protection (MCEP) program is designed to protect our soldiers' eyes from the external threats of fragmentation, electromagnetic radiation, wind, dust, sand, etc. and greatly improve both safety and operational effectiveness. However, the goggles and spectacles on the Military’s authorized protective eyewear list (APEL) are only effective if the soldier is wearing them. Fogging of the lenses during use is among the top complaints and is the leading cause of eyewear removal in the field, precisely when eye protection and clarity of vision are most needed. TDA is developing an active anti-fogging system for incorporation into MCEP. This project will optimize the properties of an active anti-fogging system and incorporate it into protective eyewear prototypes to demonstrate feasibility of the anti-fogging system while also providing MCEP that meets all Military specifications. Following demonstration of the initial prototypes, we will take an iterative approach to development where test results allow for optimization of the prototype design and ultimately production of tactical Military protective eyewear prototypes containing the active anti-fogging capability. By the end of the project, we will provide prototype eyewear that meets all Military specifications and incorporates a fully functional active anti-fogging system.
