Description
We address main issues concerning the design of modular multi-platform rotor hub fatigue test rig in a systematic way by identifying constraints that current typical hub tests experience. Our design approach starts with decoupling the centrifugal force (CF) from rest of the blade load components, such that each blade load component can be accurately generated in the test rig. The location of CF loading point close to the blade attachment point to the hub arm minimizes the effect of blade bending on other blade load components as well as the overall test rig size. Multi-platform feature comes from the capability of relocating actuators along the blade axis for a new platform test. Our proposed design will allow each and all hub arms to be simultaneously tested as valid test specimens. We also propose developing a kinematic simulation model to optimize the location of the loading and sensing points. We plan to build a scaled hub test rig, and to use highly advanced automated feedback control system and sensors such as the non-contact optical Direct Strain Imaging technology. We propose to develop high fidelity spectrum editing tool and multi-axial test data analysis tool as well to support testing.
