Description

In order to control and dominate the Electromagnetic Spectrum space in the Electronic Warfare domain, US military has to be armed with modern radar technologies especially on small UAS and rotary aircraft type platforms as they can be deployed in a condensed and very complex environment. This is key to the survival of US military in future battle grounds. Hence, we propose for this Phase I SBIR solicitation a preliminary concept of such an AESA Transmit-Receive antenna system which is small in size, conformal, light weight, produces an ERP greater than 65dBm and has a full field of view. All these features make this design easily implementable on a small UAS or rotary type of aircraft. Modern day technologies in the area of electromagnetics such as Metamaterials and Micro Electromechanical System switches acting as phase shifters have been incorporated in this design to make it effective for an ultra-wide band operation ranging from 18GHz – 40GHz.
