Description
We plan to develop a framework for alternative detector configurations for 9 and 15 MeV scanning, with an emphasis on configuring currently available detector concepts for high-energy applications. The work will include developmental and experimental components and initiate the development of prototype detectors. Our proposed experimental work will include three primary tasks: (a) Establish performance characteristics compared to the currently deployed detectors and (b) Acquire enough data to provide some estimate of detector lifetime for each prototype, and (c) For each detector concept sketch the landscape of scanning techniques and tasks that are tractable with the new hardware.
