Description
Our innovative Wearable Augmented Reality Controls with Haptic (WARC-H) feedback were originally developed for ruggedized use by warfighters within combat environments. This Navy project provides ideal opportunities to customize WARC-H versions for the Landing Signal Officer Display System (LSODS) Use Cases. Innovatively and uniquely WARC-H enables each user to visually see augmented reality semi-transparent forearm panels with controls (user selectable semi-transparent 2D/2.5D/3D controls that solve the longstanding lack of haptic feedback problems). Users intuitively receive dual haptic feedback from their forearms and fingertips as they use one hands fingers to press controls displayed on the other arms forearm panel. Our displays are developed per application by an integrated product team including our cognitive and human-factors scientists (4 Ph.D.s) working with the subject matter experts, and the software/hardware engineers. Mode changes to dynamically real-time reconfigure WARC-H (LSODS) applications on-the-fly are already provided as a simple flipping your wrist over gesture. <br>Key benefits/advantages especially important for this projects LSODS Use Cases are based upon exploiting human users innate proprioception (knowing your limbs positions without visually looking) and haptic feedback including: Users being able to stay eye-on focused on the landing aircraft; while simultaneously enabling users to make control button selections WITHOUT looking.
