Description
Verus Research and the University of New Mexico (UNM) are pleased to respond to the Navy Phase I STTR solicitation N19A-T001 titled “Optimized Higher Power Microwave Sources.” Verus Research, in collaboration with UNM, propose to develop a GW-class, S-band, high power microwave (HPM) source to integrate in vehicle and vessel stopping systems. Our integrated approach ensures the objectives for effective radiated power are met, while leveraging advances in HPM source efficiency to achieve system size, weight, and performance (SWAP) objectives that are out of the reach of other microwave sources. Our source system concept employs UNM’s recent discoveries in the design and demonstration of novel HPM tubes, providing revolutionary advancement over the GW-class peers and MW-class tubes considered “safe-bets” for vehicle stopping applications. Our approach includes integration of a pulsed power driver capable of very high peak and average power. This comprehensive development effort focusses on SWAP optimization from prime power to antenna design. Verus Research will also conduct system integration studies to optimize our resultant HPM system design for vehicle / vessel stopping applications. Our solution will deliver greater power and energy on target than existing systems while ensuring weight and volume objectives are met.
