Description

Readout integrated circuits (ROICs) for Nuclear Physics science experiments are very expensive and generally have performance flaws that make it difficult to collect all the data that researchers seek from the detectors that they use in their facilities. General statement of how this problem or situation is being addressed. Alphacore is developing multi-channel ROICs that have high performance, advanced capabilities, and are low cost compared with other ICs that serve similar functions. These chips feature low-noise, high speed, and configurable circuitry that allow them to match virtually any kind of detector in use at NP facilities. What was done in Phase I? Alphacore demonstrated the feasibility of designing and implementing multiple configurations of pre- amplifiers + analog-to-digital data converters (ADCs) which form the heart of a ROIC. Many single- and multi-channel designs have been taped out and will be ready for testing in Phase II. What is planned for Phase II? Alphacore will test the various chip configurations taped out in Phase I and use the test results to optimize the next iteration of the chips, along with adding features that will make these chips even more useful. Alphacore will collaborate with researchers at several DOE facilities to verify chip functionality and provide feedback for further improvements.
