Description

Improved extraction efficiency is required for x-ray free electron lasers (XFELs), as current out- coupling efficiencies are approximately 4%- The current technique used in XFELs is based on SASE which is inherently noisy with large shot-to-shot variations in output power and spectrum- Calabazas Creek Research Inc- proposes to develop advanced XFEL oscillator designs with high out-coupling efficiencies based on the Regenerative Amplifier (RAFEL) concept- The RAFEL is a high-gain/low-Q oscillator where the optical field exponentiates to high powers in a single pass through the undulator- The program will use a powerful, mature, and parallelized existing code suite (MINERVA and OPC) to design advanced system components and simulate the performance-
