Description
Megacities are rapidly becoming the epicenter of human activity. Their combination of dense terrains and highly interconnected systems requires a different skillset compared to those required for more conventional US military operations. Given the scale and complexity of megacities, real-world training is impractical and beyond the capabilities of the tools currently supporting Live Virtual Constructive (LVC) environments. Therefore, a new framework that integrates a multitude of models and high fidelity graphics is necessary to create effective training in a megacity environment. In Phase I, Charles River Analytics created this framework, designing and prototyping a Multi-Resolution Modeling and Simulation Toolkit (MultiMAST). In Phase II, we will extend MultiMAST, combining multi-paradigm, multi-resolution modeling with a cloud-based platform and 3D gaming engine to provide persistent, reality-scale simulations of a megacity. From citywide political, economic, and sociocultural systems to street-level physical behavior, the MultiMAST platform will provide a next-generation simulation platform to support LVC training in dense urban environments. Built using extensible and reusable component models, MultiMAST will support non-expert trainers developing, executing, and sustaining effective training programs to address the new challenges posed by megacity environments.
