Description

Military and civilian medical personnel across all echelons of medical care play a critical role in evaluating, caring for, and treating Warfighters. Accurate medical documentation is critical to effective, coordinated care. Despite advances in medical care technology, producing documentation remains a time-consuming, complex, and error prone task. To address this issue, we propose to demonstrate and evaluate Context-Aware Procedure Support Tools and User interfaces for Rapid and Effective Workflows (CAPTURE) that enable medical personnel to more efficiently and effectively input critical medical information across a range of operational environments. These interfaces minimize interaction costs by combining multimodal capture methods, vision technologies, and efficient hands- and eyes-free interaction mechanisms. Under the proposed Phase II effort, we will expand prior analyses to ensure these interfaces address the specific tasks, and documentation requirements of care providers. We will leverage these analyses to extend and refine the design for CAPTURE interfaces and context-aware support tools. Finally, we will expand the breadth and depth of the existing in-house cutting edge interface components to prototype CAPTURE, and will use these prototypes to demonstrate and evaluate our approaches. This effort will result in novel multimodal interfaces that facilitate more streamlined medical health record documentation.
