Concepts to Systems Inc. — Department of Defense SBIR Phase II: A16-101

Description

Concepts to Systems, Inc. (C2Si), cooperating with Professor Sundaresan of Ohio State University (OSU) proposes technology maturation of an innovative self-healing and self-routing wiring system for use in aircraft internal wiring system. The C2Si team successfully demonstrated the feasibility of their innovative concept in Phase I and plans to accelerate technology development in Phase II. The wire architecture incorporates placement of the healing/rerouting layer between a metal/polymer conductive core and outer insulative and protective polymer sheath with minimal modification to manufacturing process. The objective is to not increase original wire weight and also introduce a damage location sensing miniaturized system. Besides perfecting the manufacturing process, the C2Si team will perform detailed multiphysics modeling with extensive testing of the prototype wiring system in Phase II. They will also demonstrate SERCUIT technology on an aircraft representative electronics wiring and produce testing results at TRL 4-5 level at the end of Phase II. Our team is partnering with Parker Hannifin to create a roadmap for the SERCUIT technology insertion in military and commercial aerospace markets. Successful completion of Phase II work will result in maturing the SERCUIT technology for field testing it in collaboration with the customer in Phase III.
