Description
Under this SBIR, Diversified Technologies, Inc. (DTI) will build on its proven EMRG Compact Power Converter design (N113-181), incorporating advanced power devices to take advantage of their improved wide bandgap performance, and allowing continuous duty-cycle operation. Front-end conditioning and switching arrangements will be developed to accommodate various input voltages including 650-1100 VDC, 6.5 kVDC, and 4160 VAC. DTI will also examine designs to utilize higher voltage MVDC power sources in the 10-20 kVDC range, as described in the PMS 320 Naval Power Systems Technology Development Roadmap. To support a broader range of applications, we will investigate architectures that will allow bi-directional power conversion between battery and capacitor energy storage. As with our previous effort, DTI will design, build, and deliver a power converter unit in Phase II meeting all prototype performance requirements, for integration and testing at Navy Railgun facilities.
