Description
The objective of this program is to develop small satellite communication technology, to demonstrate and implement a low power consumption, long-distance, bi-directional, reliable Free Space Optical (FSO) link supporting high bandwidth communications (100 Mbps) for satellite crosslink communication. The FSO Transceiver (Transmitter/Receiver) to be implemented will be small Size, Weight, Power and Cost (SWaP-C) such that it can be easily carried by the small satellite platforms such as Cubesats. The high level of miniaturization required by the Transceiver will be achieved through Freedom Photonics’ proprietary photonic integrated circuit (PIC) technology.
