The role of HDT Bio is to translate discovery into products for infectious diseasesIn this proposal we focus on producing a diagnostic test to aid in the elimination of leprosyWe will develop LepReactan improved and cost effective diagnostic intradermal skin test to permit screening for Mycobacterium leprae infectionLeprosy is a severe neurological disease caused by infection with Mlepraeand development of diseaseas well as person to person transmissioncan be interrupted with early interventionThus prevention of leprosy can only be enabled by sensitive detection of infectionas is done tuberculosisTBusing the tuberculin testWe have identified proteins that hold promise as components for skin test developmentThese proteins demonstrate a high degree of sensitivity for detection of infectionandunlike the tuberculin test for TBhave the potential to form a very specific diagnostic testUsing leprosy patient cellswe will evaluate lead polyproteins that maximize sensitivity without sacrificing specificityAs part of a future IND enabling packagewe will develop scalable manufacturing procedures and evaluate safety and efficacy of formulated proteins using animal modelsThese studies will enable GMP manufacturing and clinical trials for the first safe and defined leprosy skin test
