Description

There is a fundamental need for a high-performance computing (HPC) approach to computational electromagnetics (CEM) modeling tools suitable for designing and optimizing the next generation photonics devices- The dramatic grown of telecommunications bandwidth requirements is fueling demand for advanced manufacturing methods of next-generation devices capable of incorporating new phenomena such as plasmonic-enhanced nonlinear optical switching while fully accounting for device manufacturing tolerances and defects- This work will develop a HPC platform incorporating finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) algorithms capable of designing, simulating, and optimizing the types of devices needed to support new telecommunications bandwidth requirements- The platform will be designed for massively parallel operation across a large number of distributed nodes with GPU-enabled speed optimization-
