Description

We suggest developing a miniaturized survey system which can meet the current IPADS requirements with significant reductions in size/weight. The current weight/volume is 135 lb./6300 inch-cube. The core is Navigational Module (INS) that weighs >50 lb. and volume of 1200 inch-cube, based on Ring Laser Gyro technology. The main goal of the study is a replacement of the above sensor cluster with a new, smaller and lighter inertial Sensor Assembly utilizing a new generation of advanced Fiber Optics Gyro (FOG) technology as well as reduction of the auxiliary components' weight. FOG technology is proven to meet the requirements of various applications, tactical to strategic, including Land and Marine. Our team was directly involved in development of many of these systems. Our approach relies on innovative FOG design smaller in volume compared to existing sensors with equal or better performance ; Use of innovative architecture for the three axis gyro cluster; and implementation of advanced Navigation processing for better error rejection and higher accuracy combined with optional aided navigation features.<br>The projected weight of the fully integrated INS similar in functionality to the current system and delivering the IPADS performance is 7 lb. and the volume is < 250 inch-cube
