Description

The United States Space Force (USSF) SPACE DELTA 3 and the 4th Electronic Warfare Squadron (EWS), have a national defense-related mission need in the areas of information systems and sensors, specifically these units have requirements in Battle Management Command and Control (BMC2) to influence and enable success in joint, multi-domain operations. USSF has stated a need to improve its portfolio of military space systems in combination with keywords like “radical” and “disruptive.” goTenna makes world-class mesh radios which have demonstrated operational reliability in missions where transmission of data across flexible networks is critical. In this proposal, we will adapt goTenna’s commercial off the shelf (COTS) product to develop an optimal waveform with Low Probability of Detect and Intercept (LPX) characterics to add enhanced security features for Space Force communication requirements. At the end of this Phase II, Delta 3 will be enabled with Team Awareness Kit/Tactical Assault Kit (TAK), custom features within the TAK ecosystem, and the development of goTenna’s LPX waveform. goTenna will create a non-conventional USSF Communication Architecture to augment their current Primary, Alternate, Contingency, and Emergency (PACE) communication plan. Future Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) work can raise the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) to 9 and a Phase III transition will result in a fully commercialized and transitioned capability. goTenna will develop a TRL 6 communication capability for Space Force to integrate within the TAK ecosystems using goTenna mesh networked connectivity. Features in TAK will be designed and developed to replicate known space requests that can be sent using non-conventional ways. A field event will characterize the radio and network in both standard and contested environments utilizing military and commercial equipment. An LPX waveform will be defined, developed and tested with supporting reports resulting in a scaled demonstration. Our focus will be on supporting the Space Force customer and end-user and their requirements in their Primary, Alternate, Contingency, and Emergency (PACE) plan with the greatest impact to the Joint community.
