Description
Proposal title: Increasing Awareness About Intelligent Transportation Systems and Connected Vehicle Technologies for High School The goal of this FHWA Phase IIB SBIR program is to convert an existing board game that teaches students about Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Connected Vehicle (CV) technologies into a mobile game app that can be sold online as a commercial product. The board game was developed during the Phase II program as a teaching tool for High School and Middle School STEM students. It is a tabletop game that involves pieces that are moved on a pre-marked "board," and cards that determine how the game is played and that ask the players questions they need to answer in order to move along. Players roll a die, move the vehicle pieces along the roads, and answer questions related to ITS and CV concepts. While the board game has some advantages, mobile apps are more easily accessible to students and more likely to be used by students and others. The second program goal is to make the mobile app available as a commercial product, and to market its availability to students, teachers, parents and others. NanoSonic would work with transportation engineers at Leidos Inc. and STEM teachers in Giles County, Virginia, to develop, evaluate and market the mobile app product.
