Description
Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is confounded by noise and damage in real world documents. Preprocessing documents to remove noise will improve the performance of current OCR software. Nokomis will implement an automated search for promising preprocessing algorithms. The search will be performed using Arabic text documents with known ground truth that have been aged in a controlled way. The most promising algorithms for each type of noise will be fused together into a combined preprocessing algorithm. The automatically generated denoising algorithm will be validated using real world Arabic text documents.
