Description
Next-generation light sources will rely on tightly arranged sequences of high-field magnets to reach ambitious beam parameters and brightness- Codes available for 3-D modeling and design of electromagnet systems are inadequate for capturing the overlapping fields from these dense arrays of magnets- Moreover, these codes suffer from poor parallel performance, leading to long turn-around times, which significantly hampers the design process- Significant improvements to existing software are needed to address these shortcomings- We will enhance the three-dimensional magnetostatics code Radia to operate on massively parallel architectures using state-of-the-art mathematical libraries- We will build a browser-based graphical user interface atop a newly developed Python API for the source code- By the end of Phase II, scientists will be using Radia – on a time-scale of minutes in lieu of hours – to compute the high-resolution designs, parameter scans, and optimization studies needed for detailed analysis of next-generation magnetic insertion devices-
