Description
In December 2014, the DoD CIO directed that military services manage the migration of their respective applications from dedicated data centers owned and operated by the respective services, to the commercial cloud. This directive included processes and procedures to expedite the process and is a driving force behind the US Air Force (USAF) data center consolidation initiative. Consequently, the USAF has a requirement for a centralized Platform as a Service (PaaS) infrastructure in the commercial cloud where Air Force business applications can be developed, integrated, tested, and moved to production. These applications include support for warfighter mission area-logistics, mission area enterprise information systems, and generalized business systems. The USAF Managed Services Office estimates that it has thousands of IL 2 applications which must be migrated to the commercial cloud in order to eliminate data centers and significantly reduce data center capital and operating expenditure. The objective of this STTP program is to receive an ATO for the IL 2 PaaS environment to host migrated applications. This PaaS ATO is expected to reduce the costs and expedite the migration of future USAF IL 2 applications to the AWS cloud environment.
