Description

We intend to dramatically improve the performance of the Standardized Atmosphere Generator (SAG), an environmental background model used to characterize the atmospheric state.SAG is an empirical model which creates a complete picture of the atmospheric state for electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) and radar (RF) systems as well as trajectory computations for targeting and tracking. These systems require repeatedly refreshed data regarding continuously changing local atmospheric conditions in an effort to interpret instantaneous measurements and predictively model the motion of threats and countermeasures. In Phase I, we demonstrated performance improvements possible through the elimination of computational bottlenecks and serial code. This resulting thread-safe implementation led to a faster, more efficient model with a high degree of parallelism. In Phase II, we will transition SAG to be a fully parallel model. We will increase SAGs technology readiness level (TRL) through a comprehensive verification of its components and validation against data. The upgrades to SAG will allow real-time usage in digital and hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) simulations. It will be developed as an integrable module for MDA high-level architectures including the Objective Simulation Framework (OSF).Approved for Public Release | 18-MDA-9522 (23 Feb 18)
