Description
The military combat eye protection (MCEP) program is designed to protect our soldiers' eyes from the external threats of fragmentation, electromagnetic radiation, wind, dust, sand, etc. and greatly improve both safety and operational effectiveness. Goggles and spectacles on the Militarys authorized protective eyewear list (APEL), however, are only effective if the soldier is wearing them. Fogging of the lenses during routine use, however, is among the top complaints reported for protective eyewear and the leading cause of eyewear removal in the field during times of high physical exertion or during ingress-egress of buildings and rapidly changing environments, precisely when eye protection and clarity of vision are most needed. For these reasons, TDA is performing a feasibility study of technologies available for active anti-fogging systems available for Military tactical eyewear. This study will analyze and test currently available anti-fogging technologies and determine the most deployable active anti-fogging option for Military protective eyewear. The results of this study will be the basis of a newly designed spectacle that meets all Military specification for a tactical spectacle and incorporates an active anti-fogging system.
