Description

Complex extremity injuries involving peripheral nerves are a significant issue for combat military personnel. Current clinical methods for repairing peripheral nerve injuries, including microsutures, autologous nerve autografts, and synthetic or autologous conduits, have limited success in fully restoring functional behaviors. Since these methods rely on the slow process of the axonal outgrowths from the proximal stumps, the denervated muscles distal to the injury site lose the capacity to reinnervate. Triton Systems, Inc. proposes to further develop its technology for peripheral nerve repair that preserves the target muscle and promotes the effective functional recovery. The proposed technology is also designed to standardize peripheral nerve surgical repair procedures and offer a more consistent repair technique that will lead to improved clinical outcomes.
