AnatomyWorksAWis developing electronic atlases of the human body in a collaborative project with Johns Hopkins UniversityJHUIn this applicationwe propose to develop a multi scalemulti modal atlas of the human nervous systemOur atlas will be highly uniqueas it will serve as a portal for various types of content associated with the brain anatomy and neuroscienceThe ultimate goal of the project is to develop a new cloud based platformwhich will be used for educationanatomical referencesand case report systems for medical expertsneuroscience researchersas well as the general publicIn this grant periodwe will develop and test several types of diverse contentswhich will be linked to the coordinates and structural labels inside the atlasesThese includemore thanclinical MRI cases with various types of diseases which are being cataloged in DrMori s lab andan extensive pathology library of brain diseases in DrTroncoso s lab in Department of PathologyIn additionwe will further broaden the contents by linking Elsevier s huge resources of copyright materialspaper based textbooksand ScienceDirect databaseThese contents will be delivered through AW s atlas interface called BrainKnowledge at httpsbrainknowledge anatomyworks orgwhich was developed in our Phase I studyIn this Phase II studywe will complete our first version of the product by accomplishing the following aimsAimContinued development of the reference atlas frameworkAs the comprehensive ex vivo MR imaging and subsequent serial histology sectioning are being completed in JHUAW is receiving these materials under a license agreementAW and JHU will work together to define volumessurfacesand names of various structures and deploy them as anatomical referencing materials in the BrainKnowledge platform based on the latest web interface and database technologiesAimLinkage of the content to the cloud based BrainKnowledge interfacetestingand feedbackWe will link above mentioned contents to our BrainKnowledgeA system for fee based user registrationuser authentication and managementand content delivery will be developed and testedThe service will be released to collaborators to obtain feedback and improve the interfaceAimDistribution of atlas resources and cloud platformsOur atlas resources and cloud technologies have been attracting interests from several companies and organizationsWe continue to develop these resources to further broaden the scope of licensing usersAimTesting of user contribution to BrainKnowledgeAimsare designed to create and distribute our contents to usersHoweverthe real power of the cloud platform is to create the platform for user contributions and interactionsThrough modern design for application programing interfaceswe will develop such a platform
