Description
To protect molten salt pump impellers against aggressive molten chloride salts corrosion and blade tip erosion at high temperatures (≥ 700ºC) in a way that reduces overall equipment cost thereby increasing the efficiency of the Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) systems. Applied Thermal Coatings (ATC) Incorporation will develop an advanced low cost intermetallic coatings for molten salt pump impellers fabricated from low alloy or austenitic stainless steel materials to protect against molten salt corrosion and blade tip erosion. The coating system will have a metal and metal aluminide coatings, which will be applied onto the steel substrate in two separate coating processes. It is anticipated that the cost of this coated impeller will be significantly (~4X) lower than other stainless steel or nickel alloy based impellers and will be a critical factor in lowering the levelized cost of electricity within the aggressive DOE goal of 6¢/kWhr. Molten salt tanks in solar boilers, heat exchangers assembly, choke valves, gate valves, ball valves, mud rotor restoration in oil and gas industries, tube ID of a waterwall/furnacewall tube panels in a coal fired, oil fired, biomass and waste to energy sub/supercritical boilers, furnacewall tube panels in an ultra-supercritical boiler, boiler tubes to protect against steam oxidation.
