Description
The Army uses software applications and databases throughout its tactical systems to provide mission critical services. With mission software moving towards laptops and mobile devices in network disconnected environments, there is a need for a single-instance database solution which provides cell-level visibility with data provenance as information traverses the database. This will allow the Army to enforce protection of database information through third-party applications. Architecture Technology Corp (ATCorp) proposes SecureDBC, a software Application Provider Interface (API) product to provide database cell-level visibility to applications while tracking data provenance. SecureDBC protects information stored in a database and only allows applications to view database query results (at the cell-level) if they are permitted access. In addition, SecureDBC maintains pedigree and provenance information of data stored and accessed through the database. SecureDBC will be designed similarly to the Open Database Connector (ODBC) API and architecture which enables it to be application and database agnostic. This will reduce development costs of Army applications by mimicking standard database connectors familiar to programmers.
