Description

Aret Associates proposes developing a non-expendable solution to solve the challenge of autonomously measuring the atmospheric boundary layer. Arets reusable atmospheric profiler (RAP) combines elements of kite, unmanned aerial systems, and oceanographic launch and recovery techniques to measures temperature, pressure, humidity, wind speed and direction, and aerosol concentration from a few meters to 1000 meters above the ocean surface. In combination with a commercial unmanned surface vehicle as a base station, Arets unique RAP design comprises an Autonomous Mobile Marine Met Station (AM3S) system. The resulting AM3S system is designed for routine and directed measurements of the marine ABL providing an autonomous sampling capability similar to ocean buoys, floats, and gliders. Its measurements are suitable for atmospheric flux calculations using bulk formulations as well as Monin-Obukhov similarity theory (MOST) based profile methods.
