Description
AIS proposes the AWARE effort to research, design and prototype a system that will actually improve, rather than degrade, as faults or perturbations are experienced. Todays computer systems and mission assurance approaches are largely built on a foundation of static configurations and require manual upgrades or lengthy software development phases to increase the security or stability of a system. The concept of anti-fragility suggests that a system or process improves over time as it encounters issues or faults, rather than the current behavior, of degrading over time as faults are encountered. Under the AWARE effort the team will research, design, and prototype a multi-tiered infrastructure based on a series of abstractions and virtual machine (VM) technologies to provide a system that increases security and stability overtime as faults or issues are encountered.
