Description
ATA Engineering proposes to enhance and validate an innovative software toolset, known as COMPAS, for predicting the performance of fiber-reinforced polymer matrix composite laminate materials. The software combines nonlinear progressive failure simulation and probabilistic analysis to enable virtual testing of new material systems and assessment of mechanical properties in the absence of physical test data. The proposed effort will involve four primary technical thrusts: (1) Implementation of toolset capability enhancements, (2) A material characterization exercise performed in the context of introducing a new material into a DoD weapon system, (3) Productization of the technology through robust software engineering, and (4) Extension of the toolset to alternative material architectures. ATA will oversee fabrication of test articles and execution of a material testing effort to validate the toolsets accuracy at a variety of length scales.
