Description

High-temperature and radiation resistant complex concentrated alloys will be developed for Generation IV nuclear reactor systems. These low activity alloys with high creep strength, good weldability, swelling resistance, and resistance to hot corrosion will contribute towards longer service life and easy post service recycling. Experimental alloy development by high-throughput combinatorial technique will be combined with integrated computational modeling to engineer microstructures suitable for Generation IV environment. Stabilization of desired phases will be achieved by taking advantage of the high configurational entropy in complex concentrated alloys, arising from near equi-molar concentration of constituent elements. In Phase I, suitable alloy chemistry will be identified for Cr-Fe- Ti-V-Zr complex concentrated system and their high temperature mechanical behavior and creep strength will be evaluated. Computational modeling will be utilized to predict phase formation and high temperature stability. Commercial applications and other benefits Success in the proposed work will lead to commercial scale radiation resistant materials for Gen IV nuclear reactor systems with long service life.
