Description
To enable the aviation survival training community and resource sponsor PMA-205 to better satisfy requirements to provide sensory-physiology/situation-awareness training and educate aviation personnel of the warning signs to spatial disorientation (SD) and loss of situational awareness (SA), ARiA will build on the success of the ESAIL game-based learning and visualization tool to develop and demonstrate the feasibility of the Accident & Incident Reconstruction System, AIRS, a software program that allows the user to input specific scenario criteria to recreate actual mishap events and provides outputs to result in a suite of training tools and technologies to convey lessons learned and improve safety training through classroom-based videos and interactive, immersive visualization techniques. ARiA will (1) design and develop develop the platform-independent AIRS reconstruction and visualization tool that enables instructors and students to recreate actual mishap events from specific scenario criteria; (2) demonstrate the feasibility of AIRS with actual mishap data through creation of multiple scenarios; and (3) establish the direction of Phase II development by conducting an analysis of alternatives to determine best practices for delivery of SD training and by developing design recommendations for a suite of training technologies for SD/SA training.
