Description
The purpose of our Phase II effort is to solidify the information architecture and design concepts of the DimSum Framework into a fully-functioning, open-source toolkit. This toolkit will be ready to use (and validated with several small proof-of-concept applications) for software development efforts that enable the Army to cost-effectively build cross-device user interfaces. The framework is strongly focused on the needs of commanders in high situational awareness environments with rapidly changing operational contexts. We propose to build upon the Phase I findings from sixteen commander interviews and a human-computer interaction literature review, which provide clear guidance on the needs of commanders and mobile device users in complex environments. This research provides a baseline for us to build a functioning framework that is unprecedented in its focus on cross-device usability.
