Description

The DoD trend towards enterprise hosted cloud infrastructures for data storage, processing, and analysis coupled with the reduction of forward-deployed assets generates the need to maximize efficient communication of critical intelligence between our forward-deployed units that operate in austere environments and reach-back, enterprise systems. A solution must overcome the bi-directional dataflow challenges inherent to fielded systems in disconnected, intermittent, and limited communication environments. Black River Systems will research, evaluate, and propose a bi-directional data synchronization system to enhance SOCOM communication capabilities to enable our forces to capitalize on moments of opportunity, reduce error, and evade threats; e.g., High Value Target engagement, fratricide reduction, and emergency extraction. The design for the Phase II system will specify an autonomy layer capable of prioritization and prepositioning data for opportunistic data transfer to minimize the human interaction requirement. Risks, benefits, and compatibility with current SOCOM enterprises for each technology will be identified. The proposed system is comprised of technologies that have application to opportunistic prepositioning of data to Internet of Things sensors, and autonomous data transfers with position prediction for power savings in wireless data connections for Remote Controlled Model Aircraft, Small Form Factor aircraft, and emerging broadcast flight data recorder systems.
