Description
Boulder Nonlinear Systems and our teaming partner, The Ohio State University, will investigate tunable notch filter technology based on frequency selective surfaces and phase change materials. Modelling and trade studies will be used to select the most promising frequency selective surface geometry and phase change material. A design will be completed for active matrix addressing to tune the phase change material. Demonstration of wavelength tuning using a phase change material will constitute the Phase I proof of principle. A design for a prototype longwave infrared (LWIR) tunable notch filter will be completed. The prototype tunable filter will be fabricated and tested in Phase II.
